…. It wasn’t long after we sat down when we heard a disturbance from the chickens. Then, the rooster gave a loud and terrible screech that shook us.
“That was weird,” said DJ, our father. The rooster was a macho bird and couldn’t have made such a weird sound. DJ placed his coffee cup on the kitchen table and went out. We followed him. Outside it looked like the scene of a crime that had just happened, for the rooster was on the ground having spasms: tongue hanging, feet kicking, wings flapping, feathers trembling, and eyes glossy…..
